Hi all.
Somewhat like Duncan, I scavanged tv sets from the 'tip', and obtained an ARRL handbook in '76 to broaden my electronics horizons. I didn't really get into valve gear till the late 2000's when the kids wanted guitar amps with 'tone'. Electronics is a great hobby, and having tools like PSUD2 makes it so much easier to sketch out what will happen with the powering before, after or during a project.
I especially like PSUD2 for forum interactions, as it can be quickly used to transfer awareness and understanding to those that haven't had decades of experience with power supplies. It's especially useful for valve rectifier power supplies, as it allows a good estimate of peak diode currents at turn-on and in continuous operation, as a way to check against diode datasheet limits. I also use it regularly to check fuse rms currents against datasheet limits during turn-on, and to check LC filter resonance behaviour.
PSUD2 is 'just' a tool, and I applaud Duncan for preparing such a simple tool to use - especially when compared to more complicated simulation tools which can easily suffer from the vagaries of custom models and 'sh*t in, sh*t out' syndrome, and often don't survive over decades.
I also applaud Duncan for aiming to progress a version 3.
