Hi all!
Right now I am working on designing a new condenser mic and a mic preamp for recording. So far I'm considering 6au6, 12au6, 6ej7, e180f and perhaps an ef14.
Do you know of high amplification low resistance and capacitance tubes that sound good that I should consider? I'm mostly thinking about pentodes but I will look in to the tubes you recommend.
Thank you! Have a great day,
Jor |

Hi Young Fred,
Try the 6EJ7 or E180F triode strapped. High transfonductance and highish mu (60-70 in triode) make for good low noise operation. E180F can also be used pentode for this and that tube by nature will be less microphonic than 6EJ7 in either mode.
The *AU6 tubes will be comparitively quite noisy for mic pre use. Good in the higher level stages though.
If you have any VHF triodes with you from TV tuners, they are usually well suited to mic preamps.
Cheers! _________________ Gregg |
